
"…Carole never did things in the conventional way, which Clark admired about her even more than her friends did. He could never anticipate her. She was such a marvel to him he could never stop telling ‘Carole’ stories. Long after she was gone, he told Howard Hawks about the first time he took her duck hunting. As Hawks remembers:
“‘We got up early in the morning to go out to the duck blind. It was foggy and you could hear the ducks and geese honking up above the fog. We just sat there and she said, ‘What’ll we do?’ I told her we just waited. She said, ‘I can think of something better to do.’ And we made love twice in the duck blind, which wasn’t an easy thing to do.”
