How much of a film snob do you have to be in order to not recognize Steven Spielberg’s talent? I mean, hooray for independent, widely unknown films, but c’mon. Yes, he made terrible movies (such as War of the Worlds and The Terminal, which is truly painful to watch) but just look at the storytelling technique and the visuals from Duel (basically made in two days), Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (my personal favorite), Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. and, most recently, the amazing War Horse. Also, he produced Poltergeist, Gremlins, The Goonies and Back to the Future, all entertaining movies that only bitter, unhappy people can possibly detest. So, yeah. Go get a childhood if you didn’t have one and stop bitching about him being the new jury president at Cannes.
